Patrick Beverley cleared for basketball activity three months ahead of schedule

Los Angeles Clippers point guard Patrick Beverley underwent season-ending knee surgery back in November, and he was expected to be out until at least August with a nine-month recovery. Apparently he is a very fast healer.

Beverley’s doctor, Dr. Walter Lowe of the University of Texas Medical Center, told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday that Beverley has been cleared for full basketball activities after a “remarkable” recovery.

“I saw Pat [Thursday] and ordered a new MRI approximately six months out from his microfracture biocartilage repair and lateral meniscus repair,” Lowe said. “His recovery has been remarkable and I have cleared him to return to all basketball activities. This speedy recovery is a testament to Pat’s diligence to the comprehensive rehabilitation program between Houston and LA.”

The Clippers have a $5 million team option for Beverley for next season, but they could look to sign him to an extension now that he has been declared healthy three months ahead of schedule. The 29-year-old averaged 12.9 points in the 11 games he appeared in and had emerged as the team’s leader after Chris Paul was traded.

Many of us thought Beverley was crazy with the prediction he made about his recovery several months back, but he was not that far off.
