Paul George thinks something is wrong with his shot

Paul George

Paul George continues his brutal second-half shooting slump, and it’s gotten to the point where he is questioning the very physical integrity of his shot.

After a narrow loss to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday where he went just 5-for-19 from the field, the Oklahoma City Thunder forward raised the possibility that there might be something wrong structurally with his shot.

“Gotta figure out if it’s something mechanical in my shot,” said George, per Norman Transcript’s Fred Katz. “I’ve had struggles throughout the season and in my career shooting it, but it’s all just been not making shots I normally do.

“I don’t know what it is, it just feels funny,” he added. “Shooting the ball feels funny. So I’m gonna work it out with the trainers and try to figure it out. But I didn’t feel myself shooting the ball tonight.”

George entered Tuesday’s game shooting a pedestrian 43.1 percent from the field this season. While he is still connecting on nearly 40 percent of his threes on the year, the five-time All-Star has seen his shooting splits sink to 37.8 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from deep since the All-Star break.

George has had other frustrations to deal with in his first season with the Thunder as well, but having your No. 2 offensive option lose faith in his ability to shoot is obviously not a good sign with the playoffs now just days away.
