Are Pelicans open to trading Anthony Davis to Lakers?

Anthony Davis

Are the New Orleans Pelicans open to trading Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers? That’s something many are wondering, and there is some conflicting information.

When Davis first issued his trade request in late January, the Lakers were the team that immediately popped up as a desired destination. The Lakers’ front office made multiple efforts to try and acquire Davis in a trade, but it seemed New Orleans never was interested in working with them.

The Pelicans fired GM Dell Demps and have since replaced him with David Griffin. Now with a new front office direction and the No. 1 pick, would the Pelicans be open to trading Davis to the Lakers? ESPN’s Zach Lowe says he thinks so and that ownership would allow Griffin to make what he felt was the best trade for the team, regardless of destination.

Contrarily, Lowe’s colleague Brian Windhorst reported that the Pelicans are not interested in trading with the Lakers.

The Lakers received the No. 4 pick in this year’s draft and can package that with a number of their young players to try and entice the Pelicans into a trade. We already know they are open to trading that pick. Would that plus other assets be enough to pry Davis from New Orleans, over offers they can receive from other teams? Will New Orleans’ new front office consider them as a trade partner? Those questions should be answered over the coming months.
