Phoenix Suns planning to target Monty Williams after firing Kokoskov
Monty Williams remains one of the most desirable coaching targets around.
The Phoenix Suns fired Igor Kokoskov after only one season as their head coach. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, part of their reason for the firing was to target Williams.
Here's a factor in the timing of Kokoskov's dismissal: The Suns are planning to target Philadelphia 76ers assistant Monty Williams, league sources tell ESPN. Lakers are planning a second interview with Williams soon, sources said.

Williams is one of the candidates for the Los Angeles Lakers’ coaching vacancy along with Ty Lue. The two are set to have a second interview with the team. Phoenix knows it needs to move quickly to get in the mix.
Williams, 47, is currently an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers. He coached the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans for five seasons from 2010-2015. They reached the playoffs twice under his leadership, though they did not advance past the first round.
