Rebecca Lobo had a cringeworthy line during WNBA Finals Game 1

Rebecca Lobo had her “How do you do fellow kids?” moment in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals.

The retired Basketball Hall of Famer Lobo was on the call for ESPN during the Finals opener between the Phoenix Mercury and the Las Vegas Aces on Friday night (which the Aces ended up winning 89-86). In the third quarter at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., Lobo went viral for her cringeworthy line on the broadcast.

Lobo was quoting some previous comments by Mercury head coach Nate Tibbetts about the team’s performance over the last 6-to-7 weeks. However, when she got to the “6-7” part of the quote, she said it in a particular tone imitating the infamous viral meme.

Here is the video.

“6-7” is nonsensical slang term that was popularized by the younger generations. It originally came from a song lyric by rapper Skrilla (from the track “Doot Doot (6 7)”) and blew up thanks to a viral video of a kid saying the term with a distinctive tone (like the one that Lobo used) and an accompanying up-and-down hand gesture.

Meanwhile, Lobo, the former WNBA All-Star who has been an analyst for ESPN since 2004, is 51 years old, so she is not quite the target demographic of the meme. However, Lobo does have four children, so it is possible that she learned about the “6-7” meme from them.

That said, using the term on the air was probably a whiff akin to the time that Lobo accidentally dropped Donald Trump’s slogan during another WNBA game on ESPN earlier this year.
