Rudy Gay says he underwent Achilles procedure this summer
Here’s some news that won’t too bode well for the Sacramento Kings’ efforts to trade forward Rudy Gay.
In an interview with Blake Ellington of Sactown Royalty on Tuesday, Gay said that he recently underwent a minor procedure on his Achilles tendon.
“I actually had surgery,” said Gay when asked about what he’s been working over the course of this offseason. “I had Achilles tendonitis, basically micro tears in my Achilles and for the past two seasons it’s been bothering me so I’ve been trying to play through it and I got to a point where I needed to have it fixed so I got it fixed.”
The Kings have appeared to be actively shopping the 29-year-old Gay this summer, and the former No. 8 overall pick himself has wanted out in the past. Gay’s high-usage, one-dimensional game isn’t a great fit for the modern-day NBA. As such, even if it’s becoming increasingly clear that Sacramento doesn’t really see him as an important part of their future, any concern whatsoever with Gay’s health will make it that much more difficult for them to deal him.
