Russell Westbrook is not ready for his last dance just yet.

The former NBA MVP guard Westbrook spoke with reporters on Sunday after signing with the Sacramento Kings on a free agent deal earlier in the week. During the session, Westbrook was asked by a reporter if this coming season could be his final one in the NBA.

“Yeah right,” said Westbrook while giving a quizzical look and a smirk. Here is the video.

There you have it, folks. Westbrook definitely has no plans to retire after the 2025-26 NBA season.

About to turn 37 years old, Westbrook was an unsigned free agent this offseason for about three-and-a-half months. That finally ended this week when Westbrook agreed to a deal with the Kings featuring some interesting details.

The nine-time All-Star Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. While the flaws in his game tend to become magnified during the playoffs, Westbrook is still a strong second-unit creator and overall team floor-raiser at this point of his career.

Westbrook is only on a one-year contract with Sacramento, so he will have to prove himself once again this season if he wants the market to look more kindly upon him next summer. But now that Westbrook is officially locked and loaded for his 18th career season in the NBA, he is still looking ahead to Year 19 and beyond from there.
