Former Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks would have interest in the Los Angeles Lakers job if it became available, according to a report.
According to Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders, people close to Brooks have said that he would be interested in the position should the Lakers part way with coach Byron Scott.
Brooks is a southern California native and has a long track record of success in his previous position with the Thunder. He also has proven that he can develop young talent, as he took over a young Thunder team with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook’s careers in their infancy, and that could appeal to a Lakers team that has Julius Randle, D’Angelo Russell, and likely another top three pick coming in June.
Of course, the Lakers would have to fire Scott, and there has been no indication thus far that that’s about to happen. It may be tempting if Brooks could lure his former star, given that the Lakers are apparently not in the picture for him right now. Brooks is also being linked to another vacant job.
