The Golden State Warriors are on the brink of playoff elimination following their latest loss on Monday night, and it does not sound like Stephen Curry will be able to come to the team’s rescue.

The Warriors now trail 3-1 in their Western Conference semifinals series against the Minnesota Timberwolves after they lost 117-110 on Monday night at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif. Draymond Green was asked following the game if he believes Curry will play in Game 5, which is now a must-win for Golden State.

Green said the Warriors are “not going to Superman this thing” and that Curry will play if he is able to.

When asked about his teammate’s comments, Curry had a telling response.

“Even if I wanted to be Superman, I couldn’t,” Curry told Marc J. Spears of Andscape.

“Even if I wanted to be Superman, I couldn’t,” injured Warriors guard Stephen Curry told @andscape in response to Green’s words about Game 5. Curry added he doesn’t expect to be available in 5 and won’t know anything more about his hamstring until his next medical evaluation. https://t.co/1HTwpiHppn

Curry left Game 1 against the Timberwolves with a hamstring injury. The Warriors went on to win that game, but they have lost three straight since.

A report over the weekend claimed Game 6 is the earliest Curry will be able to return, so the two-time NBA MVP clearly is not back to full strength yet. Based on what he said, it sounds like Curry knows he would not be all that effective even if he were to play in Game 5 on Wednesday night.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke about needing to utilize a “new formula” after Curry went down, but that formula has not working thus far. Golden State will have to try to extend the series without Curry on Wednesday night and hope he can return for a potential Game 6.
