Steve Francis arrested for DWI, possession of weed, threatening officers
Former Houston Rockets star Steve Francis was arrested in Texas over the weekend for driving while under the influence, and it sounds like he was anything but cooperative with police officers during the stop.
Francis, who was also found to be in possession of marijuana, was pulled over at around 11:20 p.m. Saturday night for allegedly driving 88 mph in a 65-mph zone. Officers noticed the smell of alcohol on the 39-year-old, and he refused to take a field sobriety test. Francis apparently became angry after that, which resulted in police calling for backup.
According to a report from TMZ, Francis was “verbally abusive” and vowed to get revenge against the arresting officers. He was charged with DWI, possession of marijuana and retaliation threats.
Francis was also arrested for public intoxication at an airport back in 2010. The former guard averaged 18.1 points per game during his nine-year NBA career and had his best seasons in Houston. We know one former teammate who is likely very disappointed with him.
