Steve Kerr is expecting a big year from Draymond Green next season.
The Golden State Warriors had the worst record in the NBA at the time of the league’s suspension in March. They were just 15-50. The team played the entire season without Klay Thompson, who is recovering from a torn ACL, and most of the season without Steph Curry, who suffered a hand injury.
That left Green as being the lone regular from the Warriors’ years of success to struggle through the losses. And Kerr says that was hard for him.
“I think this year was really frustrating for him offensively,” Kerr told KNBR’s ‘Tolbert, Kreuger and Brooks’ Podcast. Aand then as a competitor, it was frustrating for him just losing night after night. It’s just too difficult in this league to try to win games when you’re that shorthanded. I think he dealt with the frustration. He definitely boiled over several times, got kicked out. But, overall, I just thought he handled himself well.”
Kerr believes that with the long rest and time off, Green will come back even stronger next season.
“I think we’re going to see the very best version of Draymond next year, whenever next season starts. I feel really good about where he’s going to be mentally and physically,” Kerr said of Green.
Green, 30, was a 2nd-round pick by the Warriors in 2012 and never was part of a team that missed the playoffs or went worse than 47-35 until this year. He averaged 8.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game this season and took some criticism from Charles Barkley.
