Suns could part ways with 1 star player?
The Phoenix Suns have a top-heavy roster that was unable to advance past the first round of the playoffs this year, and there has been some speculation that they could part ways with one of their star players.
Ric Bucher of FOX Sports spoke with several NBA scouts and executives to gather some opinions on what the Suns could do to fix their issues this summer. One line of thinking is that Phoenix could reshape their roster by making everyone other than Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker available. Many executives agreed that that would be the best approach.
The Suns could also trade one star player and hope that having two stars and more depth can produce better results. Phoenix could decide that acquiring Beal made things worse and look to move the veteran guard.
One Eastern Conference general manager raised the question of whether Booker even wants to remain with the Suns.
“Does Book want to stay in Phoenix? Unclear,” the GM told Bucher.
Another executive pointed to the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder as potential suitors for Booker if the 27-year-old wants a change of scenery.
The Suns have yet to say whether they are committed to head coach Frank Vogel, who just finished his first season with the team. If Vogel is fired, that would likely be a sign that Phoenix believes a different coach could get more from their Big Three. We have already started to hear rumblings that Durant may not have been happy with how he was utilized by Vogel this year.
If a Booker trade becomes a legitimate possibility, there is going to be one obvious team mentioned as a potential suitor.
