Report: Tom Thibodeau, Jeff Van Gundy to meet with Timberwolves

Tom-Thibodeau

Tom Thibodeau and Jeff Van Gundy will reportedly meet with the Minnesota Timberwolves to discuss their vacant head coaching position.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical, the two high-profile coaches are slated to meet with the team, including owner Glen Taylor, in the days to come.

Taylor is using executive firm Korn Ferry to help with the search, the same firm that played a role in Detroit’s hiring of Van Gundy’s brother, Stan. The Timberwolves are reportedly exploring the possibility of emulating the Pistons’ blueprint.

Sam Mitchell, the interim coach, is no longer in the picture for the permanent job.

Minnesota went just 29-53 during the season, but it’s a decently attractive job. They finished strongly, winning at Golden State late in the season. They have a good young core led by two potential franchise players in Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns. It will be vital that the new coach, whoever that may be, can get the young players to buy in – something that Mitchell had serious issues with over the course of the season.
