Tom Thibodeau, Timberwolves have been in contact

Tom Thibodeau

Could Tom Thibodeau end up coaching the Minnesota Timberwolves? It sounds like a possibility.

Sam Mitchell is currently serving as interim head coach of the 17-37 Timberwolves. It doesn’t seem like he will keep the job long term, especially with concerns about his relationship with the team’s players.

Thibodeau is one of the best coaches on the market after being fired by the Chicago Bulls following last season. He hasn’t taken a new job just yet, but he has been linked to the Pelicans, Nets, Cavaliers and Knicks. Now he has also been linked to the Timberwolves.

In an interview with ESPN’s “Mike and Mike in the Morning,” Brian Windhorst reported that there has been some “cursory contact” between the T-Wolves and Thibodeau.

The Timberwolves are viewed as an attractive job because of their young nucleus including Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns. With the right coach in place and some more supplementary talent on the roster, Minnesota could become a playoff team.

It remains to be seen whether the initial contact between the sides develops into more.
