Report: Some top NBA GMs want out of their jobs to join 76ers

Bryan Colangelo

The Philadelphia 76ers have an unexpected position to fill in their front office this offseason, and it sounds like there are going to be plenty of candidates lining up for the job.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on “SportsCenter” Thursday that some respected general managers around the league have already been trying to find out if there is a way they can get out of their current job to join the Sixers.

That isn’t exactly shocking, as the 76ers are currently in a position to win for years to come. Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have finally come into their own, and they look like they could be one of the best duos in basketball in the near future. Philly’s young, exciting core is one of the reasons they are considered a potential top destination for LeBron James and other free agents this offseason.

Former GM Bryan Colangelo was pushed out by the Sixers despite blaming his wife for the embarrassing social media situation he found himself involved in recently. Had it not been for the Twitter debacle, Colangelo’s job would have been as safe as any GM around the NBA. Teams that are in the type of shape the Sixers are in are almost never searching for a GM, so it makes sense that there is so much interest in the job.
