Ja Morant’s seven years with the Memphis Grizzlies ended in a whimper.
The Portland Trail Blazers guard Morant was the subject of a viral clip that was released this week. The video showed Morant’s live reaction to the news that he had been traded from the Grizzlies to the Blazers in late June.
Morant reacted with a stunned seven-word reaction. “Damn. They sent me to Portland, man,” he said.

Morant, 27, had spent his entire NBA career with the Grizzlies up to that point, making two All-Star teams and an All-NBA team and also earning himself a $197.2 million designated rookie max extension from the Grizzlies.
The former No. 2 overall draft pick Morant had also publicly affirmed his commitment and loyalty to Memphis many times in the past. But in the end, Morant’s baggage (including multiple suspensions for flashing guns over social media and clashes with both his teammates and coaches alike) proved to be too much for the Grizzlies to continue to deal with.
That said, Morant is now getting a much-needed fresh start on an up-and-coming Blazers team. Morant himself also sounds very optimistic about the move and recently issued a four-word prediction about next season in Portland.
