Imagine being cut by one of the greatest teams in NBA history just weeks before the playoffs. That’s the rather cruel April Fools prank the Golden State Warriors pulled on Festus Ezeli.
Andre Iguodala teamed up with Lyft and KNBR’s Murph and Mac to play an elaborate prank on Ezeli. In it, a baffled Ezeli hears on “the radio” that sources close to the Warriors say he’ll be cut weeks before the playoffs, followed by teammates – and even assistant coach Luke Walton – texting him their commiserations as Iguodala laughed uproariously. Ezeli takes it well, aside from the bit where he tries to hit Iguodala with a cake. It wasn’t even April Fools’ Day yet. How cruel.
Ezeli, mind you, is no stranger to being pranked by teammates. Maybe they targeted him for this one in part because he took the last one so well.
