The Golden State Warriors are interested in becoming even more unfair.
According to Tim Kawakami of the Athletic, the Warriors maintain an interest in New Orleans Pelicans star center Anthony Davis. The organization has viewed him as a potential long-term target for a long time, and that has not changed.
The realities of the salary cap, however, may prevent such a move from happening, as would, ironically, the team’s continued success. Golden State is likely to pursue extensions with guard Klay Thompson and forward Draymond Green, as ownership is prepared to keep the core of the team together as long as they’re still winning. Kawakami reasons that major changes and the eventual pursuit of Davis may have been more probable had the Warriors fallen to the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Finals.
Davis does appear to be a long-term target, and a lot can change before he hits free agency. It’s one to watch, albeit unlikely.
