Report: Warriors optimistic Kevin Durant could return for Game 3

Kevin Durant Warriors

The Golden State Warriors finally lost a game without Kevin Durant on Thursday night when the Toronto Raptors got them best of them in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, and they are hoping to get him back after Game 2.

Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports that Durant is expected to return at some point during the middle of the NBA Finals, and some within the Warriors organization are optimistic he will be able to suit up for Game 3 in Golden State next Wednesday. If not, there is a “stronger possibility” Durant will be ready for Game 4.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr said this week that Durant has finally been cleared to resume on-court activities, though he has all but ruled out the possibility of Durant returning in Game 2.

The Warriors are obviously one of the deepest teams in NBA history, but Andre Iguodala is now dealing with a leg injury in addition to Durant’s calf injury. While Kerr clearly doesn’t feel that offense was the issue judging by the way he ripped his team after Game 1, Durant likely would have helped Golden State put up more than 109 points.

Regardless of what some people think, the Warriors are not a better team without Durant. Game 1 was a reminder of that, and they need the two-time NBA Finals MVP back as soon as possible.
