Report: Wizards preparing massive offer for Masai Ujiri

Masai Ujiri Raptors

The Washington Wizards are preparing to make a massive offer to Toronto Raptors executive Masai Ujiri, according to a report.

The Wizards fired longtime team executive Ernie Grunfeld in April and have been searching for a replacement. After being turned down by Denver’s Tim Connelly, they decided they would swing for the fences.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Wizards are prepared to offer Ujiri around $10 million per year, potential ownership equity, and the opportunity to work with Monumental Sports and Entertainment, the company that oversees both the Wizards and Capitals, if he is interested.

Ujiri, 48, helped build the Nuggets into contenders before leaving for the Raptors in 2013. He has now turned the Raptors into a title team, leading them to their first championship in franchise history.

Ujiri has two years left on his contract. It’s hard to imagine the Raptors letting him go elsewhere and not giving him a pay raise.
