Kyle Larson’s attempt to complete “The Double” did not go as planned on Sunday, but that doesn’t seem like it will deter him from attempting it again next year.

Larson drove in the Indianapolis 500 for the first time and finished 18th. He even led a few laps before having to pit and give up the lead.

After the race, Larson spoke with NBC Sports and said he would “love” to be back driving in the Indy 500 again.

“I would definitely love to be back next year,” Larson said after the Indy 500. “I feel like I learned a lot throughout the race. I made a couple of mistakes early, but felt like I did a really good job on the restarts.”

Larson said that he felt he learned a lot and would be in a better position to succeed next year.

A weather delayed the start of the Indy 500 by four hours, which ruined Larson’s chances of running the full race both there and at Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600. The 31-year-old did not arrive at Charlotte Motor Speedway until the middle of Stage 3 of the Coca-Cola 600. Justin Allgaier had to step in and drive the No. 17 Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports. Coincidentally, there was a weather delay in the NASCAR Cup Series race around the time Larson arrived at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
