Lando Norris on Sunday won his first race of 2026, capturing victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Norris utilized a fresh round of upgrades to his car to qualify first and win the race.
Despite the upgrades from McLaren, Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri was forced to retired from the race with a gearbox issue, dashing any chance of a 1-2 finish for his team.
Finishing second was Max Verstappen, who stayed out on a late virtual safety car to secure a gap over both Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton.
Rounding out the podium was Antonelli, who finished third. Antonelli widens his lead in the drivers’ standing to 50 points over Hamilton and 59 points over George Russell.
In what could be considered a disappointment, Ferrari saw Charles Leclerc finish 4th and Hamilton finish 5th, due to a 5-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane, despite looking the fastest during free practice and qualifying.
F1 now officially breaks for the summer, with a mandatory shutdown of all team factories for approximately three weeks.
While Mercedes still holds a healthy lead in the constructors’ standings, there it seems there will be a renewed battled for second among McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull when the second half of the season resumes on August 23rd at the Dutch Grand Prix.
