In a statement, Taylor said he had been trying to get Morehouse football players out of the handshake line, where they were not supposed to be.
“I am at a loss for words and I am upset about how I was violated and treated today. For my players, my family and people of Tuskegee to witness that is heartbreaking for me,” Taylor told The Field of 68. “I was simply trying to get the football team out of the handshake line as they were following right behind me and the team yelling obscenities! It was a very dangerous situation.”
According to Tuskegee Athletic Director Reginald Ruffin via HBCU Gameday, Taylor simply asked the security officer if he could remove the football players from the line. The officer characterized Taylor as “very aggressive,” though the video does not show Taylor doing anything more than talking and gesturing.
Taylor was eventually released and allowed to travel back to Tuskegee with the rest of the team.
