Emmanuel Mudiay reportedly picking SMU over Kentucky

Emmanuel MudiayEmmanuel Mudiay, who is one of the top college basketball recruits in the country, will announce on Saturday night where he plans to attend college. Many insiders believe his choice will be SMU.

Mudiay is a 6-foot-4 point guard from Prime Prep Academy in Texas. He is ranked No. 5 in the 2014 recruiting class by ESPN, and No. 3 by Rivals.

Mudiay recently narrowed his list to five schools: Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma State and SMU. ESPN’s Jeff Goodman says the word circulating is that Mudiay will choose between SMU and Kentucky. Goodman thinks that SMU will win the competition.

Goodman isn’t alone in his thoughts. CBS Sports’ Jeff Borzello says a coach told him that Mudiay would be choosing SMU. SNY’s Adam Zagoria adds that Mudiay is very high on SMU coach Larry Brown.

Kentucky Sports Radio’s Matt Jones also referenced a tweet Mudiay sent last week as possible evidence that the point guard would be choosing SMU:

The tweet certainly was ambiguous, but if it had anything to do with his college preference, SMU would definitely fit the bill more than Kentucky when it comes to shocking the world.

SMU went 15-17 in its first season under Brown. The former NBA coach would be well on his way to turning around the program if he can land the top-five player.
