Here I was thinking the crazy UCSB fan running onto the court and getting in Gib Arnold’s face was pure entertainment. Turns out that wasn’t even the best part of the story; Arnold’s postgame interview was.
The Hawaii coach spoke with ESPN’s Kara Lawson after his team’s 86-77 loss at UCSB Thursday and talked about the UCSB fan who ran onto the court and got in his grill. He gave some great quotes about it.
“I’ve never seen anything like that in 22 years of coaching and a lot of years of playing,” he said.
Gib did not think there was much security could have done. I mean how do you protect against something like that? You never expect it to happen, which is pretty much what Gib said.
“The guy was wasted and in a different world. It is what it is. You really can’t control crazies — that’s why they’re crazy.”
Summed it up perfectly.
The fan was arrested. Hopefully he didn’t lose his headband while in the tank.
