Jayson Tatum is the latest high school basketball star to choose to attend Duke in hopes of continuing the Blue Devils’ legacy as one of the top programs in the country.
Tatum, who was the Gatorade National High School Athlete of the Year, was interviewed on the ESPYS red carpet Wednesday and was asked what led him to choose Duke. He singled out Coach K as the reason.
“Really, Coach K. After I took my visit, it just felt right,” said Tatum.
“Coach K is the best in my opinion and I’m happy to play for him.”
Coach K caught some flak last season for lecturing an opponent, but it’s clear his messages and reputation still resonate quite well with players. He is highly respected and loved by his players.
And with Tatum, a 6-foot-8 shooting guard from Saint Louis in the mix, Duke should continue to be a top program for the next year or two.
