Potential NBA hopeful Jontay Porter reportedly re-tears ACL

Michael Porter Jr Jontay

Missouri forward Jontay Porter, a potential NBA Draft prospect, got some brutal news on an ACL injury that kept him out for the entire season.

According to Alex Schiffer of the Kansas City Star, Porter re-tore his ACL while working out, which throws his NBA future in serious doubt.

Porter was the co-Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2017-18, averaging 9.9 points per game as the Tigers reached the NCAA Tournament. He initially tore his ACL in a preseason scrimmage and sat out his entire sophomore season, but was still regarded as a potential late-first rounder pick.

It is unclear if Porter will attempt to go pro despite the injury or return for his junior year at Missouri.

Porter had originally reclassified to play with his brother Michael at Missouri, but that barely happened due to Michael’s own injuries. This is a pretty brutal blow for a player who had NBA ambitions as soon as this year.
