Josh Pastner being targeted by Georgia Tech, could leave Memphis
Josh Pastner is being targeted by Georgia Tech for their head coaching position, and he could be on his way out of Memphis, according to a report.
ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reports the news and says the Yellow Jackets and Pastner could finalize a deal on Friday.
If Pastner does leave Memphis, many Tigers fans would be happy with the news.
Once considered a whiz kid who was an assistant under John Calipari, Pastner has slipped in recent seasons. After leading the Tigers to four straight tournament appearances and a 31-5 record in 2012-2013, Memphis has finished 18-14 and 19-15 the past two years.
Georgia Tech fired Brian Gregory last month after five seasons on the job. Although he posted his best season ever at Georgia Tech as the team went 21-15 overall, the Yellow Jackets had three losing seasons under Gregory. They clearly view Pastner as an upgrade.
As for potential replacements for Pastner, Goodman shares a pretty impressive list of names:
If Pastner does get Ga. Tech, it will be interesting to see names that pop up for Memphis: Gregg Marshall, Penny Hardaway, Jeff Capel, etc.
