Georgetown’s Mac McClung will transfer after withdrawing from NBA Draft

Georgetown star Mac McClung won’t be entering the NBA Draft — but he isn’t returning to Georgetown, either.

McClung announced Wednesday he planned to transfer from Georgetown. The sophomore said he has already completed the paperwork to enter the transfer portal and will be seeking a waiver to play immediately.

“It was a number of different events that made me feel I had no choice but to transfer from Georgetown,” McClung told ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. “I really wanted to stay, but things throughout my career made me realize that I couldn’t.

“I’m looking for a place I can call home. A place I can be a part of a family and help them succeed.”

McClung immediately becomes the hottest property in the transfer portal. He was averaging 15.7 points, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game before a foot injury essentially ended his season at the start of February.

There was a clear disconnect between McClung and Georgetown. Hoyas coach Patrick Ewing said May 5 that McClung would return for his junior season. That statement blindsided McClung, according to his agent Daniel Hazan.

McClung’s highlight reel plays made him a Youtube sensation before he even made it to college. Expect numerous top programs to pursue him as he looks for his next destination.
