Maryland coach tells fans to stop calling opposing player ‘ugly’
Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon thinks his team’s fans can do better with their chants.
During Sunday’s home game against Michigan, the Terrapins faithful taunted Wolverines freshman forward Ignas Brazdeikis by chanting, “You are ugly,” as he stepped to the free throw line, according to Brendan Quinn of The Athletic. Maryland’s PA guy promptly got on the mic and told the fans to knock it off.

He backpedals down-floor after making both, pointing to his ears and giving a wave to the crowd.
The PA announcer asks the UMD students not to do that chant. #collegehoops

Rudy Gersten of the Washington Post revealed that it was Turgeon who made the request for the fans to quit it with the “ugly” taunts.

Brazdeikis, a 20-year-old native of Lithuania, did get the last laugh. He totaled 21 points and seven rebounds in an eventual 69-62 win for Michigan. As for the Terrapins, they probably need to step up their game as we have heard plenty of better and more creative taunts on the hardwood lately.
