Tempers flared late in the first half of Saturday’s game between Louisville and Western Kentucky, resulting in one player getting ejected.
After a missed shot, there was a scramble to gain possession of the ball, which led to a scum on the floor. While on the ground, Louisville forward Montrezl Harrell had the ball wrestled away from him. Upon reaching his feet, an angry Harrell threw a punch at Western Kentucky freshman Avery Patterson. Harrell also made contact with a referee during the process.
Harrell was justifiably assessed a flagrant-2 foul and subsequently ejected from the game. Western Kentucky head coach Ray Harper and Louisville’s Rick Pitino were issued technical fouls for their actions afterward.
Montrezl Harrell came into the season as a member of the AP Preseason All-American Team after averaging 14 points and 8.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore. Through nine games this season, he was averaging 17 points and 10.4 rebounds.
