Son Jayden Hardaway becomes Penny’s first Memphis commit

Penny Hardaway

Penny Hardaway has secured his first commit since becoming the head coach at Memphis, and it came from a familiar face.

Hardaway’s son Jayden announced via Instagram Tuesday that he had committed to the Tigers’ program.

“I would like to thank God and my family for helping me make this decision. I would also like to thank the coaches that showed interest and offers throughout the years. It is with great excitement that I am announcing my commitment to both of my parents Alma Mater, the University of Memphis‼️” Hardaway wrote.

Despite having his father’s name and playing for Team Penny in travel ball, Hardaway was not heavily recruited. A story from the Memphis Commercial Appeal last year said he was the only player on Team Penny without a Division I scholarship offer. The same was the case with him among Memphis East High School’s starters. But now he has a college home at his father’s program.
