Sterling Gibbs’ buzzer-beater gives Seton Hall win over No. 3 Villanova (Video)

Part of what makes March Madness great is that you can always expect the unexpected.

In the quarterfinal round of the Big East Tournament on Thursday, eighth-seeded Seton Hall faced the tournament’s top seed, and No. 3 team in the country, Villanova. On paper, it appeared to be a total mismatch. Seton Hall came into the game with a 16-16 record, while Villanova was an impressive 28-3.

Darrun Hilliard hit a floater in the lane, giving the Wildcats a 63-62 lead with 7.8 seconds to go in regulation. The Pirates advanced the ball to halfcourt and called timeout with 3.7 seconds remaining. That’s when Seton Hall sophomore Sterling Gibbs went to work.

And just like that, a potential No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament probably slipped through the fingers of the Villanova Wildcats.
