Texas coach goes off on assistant who stormed the court 1 second too early

Texas assistant Ryan Anderson storms the court too early

Texas head coach Sean Miller was livid at one of his assistant coaches for nearly costing the Longhorns in the final seconds of their First Four matchup against NC State.

Texas senior Tramon Mark put his team ahead 68-66 with a midrange jump shot that sent a jolt into the crowd at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Longhorns assistant coach Ryan Anderson got too carried away by the moment, as he rushed onto the court after Mark’s shot went through the net.

Anderson, who probably assumed that the game was over, had to be dragged back to the sideline by another member of the Longhorns’ coaching staff. Anderson got an earful from Miller for his transgression.

Referees could have called Anderson for a technical foul had they noticed his premature court rush, but the Texas assistant was able to get back to the bench in time. Surprisingly, the referees failed to notice the hulking Anderson run onto the hardwood. Anderson, who stands at a hulking 6’9″, is a former player who suited up for Miller in the 2015-16 season — his lone year at Arizona.

NC State had more than enough time to get a shot off with a second remaining. A technical free throw would have put even more pressure on Texas to get a stop. The Wolfpack, however, were unable to get a shot off in time as the Longhorns held on for a 68-66 victory.
