Tom Izzo offers blunt assessment of freshmen after loss to Purdue
The Michigan State Spartans lost their first Big Ten game in over a year Sunday at the hands of the Purdue Boilermaker, and Spartan coach Tom Izzo didn’t sound entirely surprised.
The Spartans fell behind by as many as 23 points against Purdue, closing the deficit to four before ultimately losing by ten on the road. In Izzo’s eyes, the road crowd intimidated his younger players, especially his freshmen.
Izzo: "My freshmen needed diapers today. It was one of those days I knew they were gonna get indoctrinated."

Izzo is known for his characteristic bluntness, and he’s never satisfied with his players even when they’re winning. His freshmen have been performing very well in what has been an outstanding season for the Spartans so far, but he’s not afraid to call them out in stark terms if they slip up like they did on Sunday.
