A brutal photo of Vanderbilt’s buzzer-beater attempt showed just how close the shot came to going in.
The image spread around social media Saturday after the Commodores suffered a heartbreaking 74-72 loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. Vanderbilt’s Tyler Tanner came painfully close to nailing his halfcourt buzzer-beater try that would have won the game (video here).
How close did the shot come to going in? One image showed the ball completely within the cylinder and a third of the way down before it rattled out.
This didn't go in. pic.twitter.com/XBjursfYmt

Such are the margins of March. Vanderbilt was an inch or two away from advancing to the Sweet 16 on a desperation heave, but they are heading home instead.
On the other hand, Nebraska’s survival was a euphoric moment for a fanbase that had never even won an NCAA Tournament game before this year. Even they might be sweating when they get a glimpse of that image, though.
