The Akron Zips football program finished 5-7 in 2025, and it hasn’t had a winning season since 2015.
Over the summer, Akron revealed a bizarre promo. The winner would be able to be the “Offensive Coordinator of the Game” and be allowed to “script the opening drive.”
On Tuesday, Akron athletic director Andrew Goodrich called the winner, and the video was posted on social media. The winner is Martin Allan Whims II.

Akron posted another video with its head coach, Joe Moorhead, opening the envelope during the reveal.
Moorhead said Whims will need to be there the day before the game to meet the team and script the opening drive.

Akron revealed the 10 finalists on August 19, which included Dan Katz, a well-known part of Barstool Sports.
Each season ticket holder was given one ticket for the raffle, and each successful referral earned another entry.
At long last, in one of the more unique promos in the history of the sport, Whims will script the first drive of Akron’s game against Robert Morris on September 12 at InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field.
