Report: Alabama in talks with Butch Jones about analyst job

Butch Jones may be joining Nick Saban’s staff in role that would have him working away from the football field.

Jones had been on the hot seat for some time at Tennessee prior to being fired last November. Now, he could wind up at SEC power and perennial national championship contender Alabama.

According to AL.com, Jones has spoken with Saban regarding an offensive analyst position. Jones has reportedly met with Saban face-to-face to discuss the potential opportunity.

Jones went 34-27 as head coach of the Volunteers after stops at Central Michigan and Cincinnati. He may get a shot to once again be a head coach down the road. However, for the time being, he could occupy a role that has been filled in the past by FAU head coach Lane Kiffin, current Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, and Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. That’s not a bad stepping stone to reboot your coaching career.
