Dabo Swinney says he would take Kelly Bryant back

Kelly Bryant

Kelly Bryant is not with the Clemson Tigers after telling Dabo Swinney he intended to transfer from the program, but that may not be the end of his story with the team.

Freshman sensation Trevor Lawrence was knocked out of the Tigers’ game against Syracuse on Saturday after being hit in the head. Because Bryant was no longer with the team, Chase Brice took over for Lawrence. Brice is a redshirt freshman who does not have anywhere near the same level of experience as Bryant.

Lawrence’s injury led to questions about whether Swinney would welcome Bryant back to the program if he wanted to return.

According to ESPN’s Holly Rowe, Swinney said “Heck yeah, I love that kid.”

Bryant appears to have an open invitation to return to the program if he chooses. He left the team saying that what happened was a “slap in the face.” Swinney said he was disappointed by Bryant’s decision but understood it. By not bashing Bryant, Swinney may have kept his relationship with the quarterback intact to the point where a return might be possible.
