USC coach Clay Helton’s seat isn’t getting any cooler despite his team’s successful start to the season.
The latest heat comes from former NFL head coach Jack Del Rio. The one-time USC linebacker openly admitted that he’d be interested in the job if it were to open up despite his support for Helton.
Jack Del Rio on ESPN radio: "I'm fully supportive of Coach Helton. I'm supporting him. I'm not undermining him. If and when there was ever was anything, yeah I would be interested." #USC

Del Rio has no college coaching experience. All of his work, either as a coordinator or a head coach, has come at the NFL level since his retirement as a player. Given the importance of recruiting, that could be a worry if the Trojans look for a new coach.
There is, however, no indication that USC is looking at a coaching change. Helton has started out 2-0 with a win over a ranked rival in Stanford. That said, one of his biggest champions in the athletic department just left, so he can’t relax yet.
