Kansas athletic director Jeff Long released a statement in response to the football team’s season-opening loss.
The Jayhawks lost to FCS opponent Nicholls State 26-23 on Saturday in overtime. The loss was the 12th in row for Kansas, dating back to last season.
On Tuesday, Long said in a statement that the evaluation of the football program is “on-going” but did declare his support for the student-athletes and coaches.

KU AD Jeff Long released this comment today re: football … "We all expected a different outcome Saturday but I continue to support our student-athletes and coaches and ask all Jayhawks to do the same. Our evaluation of the program is on-going without a predetermined timeline."

Long is in his first year as athletic director at Kansas after holding the same position at Arkansas from 2008 to 2017. Under current head coach David Beaty, who took over prior to the 2015 season, the Jayhawks are 3-34.
