Kansas athletic director shoots down DJ Durkin rumors
As the Kansas Jayhawks begin their coaching search in earnest, the school’s athletic director sought to make clear that there’s one candidate who won’t be on the radar.
A report from Jayhawk Slant emerged Saturday stating that Kansas athletic director Jeff Long had spoken to disgraced former Maryland coach D.J. Durkin about the school’s head coaching position. Widespread criticism followed, but Long was quick to shoot down that speculation on his Twitter account, even calling out a concerned fan in the process.
KU fans, you don’t know me very well if you believe the latested speculation, I attempt to run a very confidential search and I am doing so now. The search is ongoing. Rock Chalk!!

It sounds safe to say, then, that Durkin is not on the school’s radar, and if he was, the outpouring of criticism for merely talking to him might well scare them off. Besides, there’s a much better, more accomplished, and less controversial candidate who is apparently at least somewhat interested in the position.
