Liberty freshman offensive lineman Tajh Boyd has died, the school announced Sunday.

In a statement, Liberty athletic director Ian McCaw confirmed that Boyd passed away. No cause of death was released to the public.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the loss of one of our student-athletes, Tajh Boyd,” the statement read. “Tajh joined our Liberty Football family as recently as January and his impact on the program will be felt for years to come.”

Boyd was fresh out of high school as a member of Liberty’s 2023 recruiting class. The three-star recruit won consecutive state championships at Oscar F. Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va., and was a second team All-Region selection as a junior.

According to Boyd’s Liberty bio, he planned to study Interdisciplinary Studies with the goal of becoming a computer science engineer after graduation.
