Mack Brown on Wednesday called out rival coach Dave Doeren over something the NC State head coach said last month.

NC State went 9-3 this season and beat rival North Carolina 39-20 on Nov. 25 to end their regular season.

After the game, ACC Network aired some video of Doeren talking to his team following the huge win. Doeren was caught referring to the Tar Heels as “pieces of s–t.”

Brown decided to revisit the topic while addressing the media on Wednesday.

The fifth-year Tar Heels head coach called Doeren “classless” for saying that about UNC’s players.

“I’ve never heard something like that before, and I’m disappointed. I thought it was classless,” Brown said. “You don’t call kids a piece of s—.”

Doeren’s comments seemed like standard talk about one’s rival, but obviously North Carolina didn’t like hearing it, which led Brown to address things publicly.

Doeren also spoke Wednesday. He said that his comments were private and for his locker room, and that he wasn’t informed there were cameras recording the moment. He said he wouldn’t have used that language in the locker room if he knew he was being recorded.

Doeren also said he had called Brown and apologized to him for the moment being on TV.

Doeren doesn’t get too much attention, but he’s finishing his 11th season with the Wolfpack. He’s led the program to eight bowl games and four 9-win seasons. They’ve consistently been a very strong team under his leadership.
