Miami Hurricanes running back Jordan Lyle faces a felony charge after voluntarily surrendering to authorities in Broward County on Thursday.
The 20-year-old rising junior was charged with aggravated fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer and a misdemeanor count of reckless driving, according to the Broward County state attorney’s office.
Police in Sunrise, Florida, filed the warrant. Authorities allege Lyle drove in a manner that showed wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property while willfully attempting to elude a marked police vehicle with lights and siren activated. Specific details about the circumstances of the stop remain limited.
Lyle, a 6-foot, 205-pound product of Fort Lauderdale’s St. Thomas Aquinas High School, posted bond and was released the same day. The University of Miami issued a brief statement.
“We are aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle. As due legal process runs its course, we will have no further comment at this time.”
The arrest comes as Lyle prepared for a potentially expanded role in the Hurricanes’ backfield. An ankle injury limited him to 35 carries for 108 yards and one touchdown across six games last season. As a true freshman in 2024, he ranked third on the team with 54 carries for 400 yards and four touchdowns.
He entered fall camp healthy and drew praise from head coach Mario Cristobal for improved physical traits and full-speed play.
Lyle is expected to compete behind senior Mark Fletcher as Miami opens the season September 4 at Stanford.
