Nick Saban wanted to make statement to schedule critics

Nick Saban

Believe it or not, Nick Saban was actually kind of happy for a few minutes.

Saban was in a good mood after his Alabama Crimson Tide shut out the LSU Tigers 29-0 in Death Valley on Saturday night. He admitted he was “satisfied” with the way his team played. Mr. Rat Poison even said the team was motivated because they had some detractors criticizing their schedule.

“I’m satisfied with the way we played today,” Saban said in a postgame interview with CBS. “This is a tough place to play. We wanted to make a little bit of a statement too in terms of the kind of team that we had. People talking about our schedule and whatnot.”

The talk around Saban’s Tide was so positive earlier in the season that he asked the media to talk about the team’s faults. He likes having the negativity in order to motivate his team.

Now that they got a big win in such convincing fashion, Saban is going to have to dig very deep to find motivational material. Now 9-0, the Tide could be heading for a 15-0 season so long as Tua Tagovailoa avoids big injury.
