Nick Saban calls out his defense again despite 34-point win

Nick Saban

Alabama coach Nick Saban continued his run of crankiness on Saturday despite a 65-31 win over Arkansas.

The aspect that Saban was not happy with today? His defense, which he felt gave up too many points to really be considered a success.

“I don’t think that you really beat the other team when you give up 31 points, like we did today, at least on the defensive perspective,” Saban said, via Mitch Sherman of ESPN. “”We need to coach them better. We need to prepare them better. They need to be able to make adjustments in the game better.”

Saban blamed himself and his staff for the poor coaching, but the message was clear. His team gave up 405 total yards, including 172 on the ground, and let the Razorbacks go 6-of-12 on third downs. It’s easy to get away with when you score 65 points, but it is something Saban will be addressing.

That said, Saban has instilled the same mentality in his defenders. They’ll be as frustrated with this performance as the coach was.
