Ole Miss will face its biggest test of the season on Saturday when the Rebels host Alabama. After making easy work of Florida last weekend, Alabama remains at No. 3 in the AP Poll but has climbed to the top of the USA Today Coaches’ Poll. Ole Miss defensive back Cody Prewitt is not nervous about his team’s upcoming opponent.
After 10th-ranked Ole Miss defeated Memphis on Saturday, Prewitt indicated that he and his teammates feel Alabama may be a bit overrated.
“We understand that we haven’t played a team that’s going to be as good as Bama,” Prewitt said, via Brandon Speck of Fox Sports. “But we don’t really think Bama is as good as they have been. And we’re better than we have been. We’re looking forward to getting to the game plan and really nailing down all the tweaks and stuff that we’re going to have to put into Bama.”
Ole Miss’ defense ranks third in the nation with just 8.5 points allowed per game. While the Rebels have not really been tested, that is an impressive start no matter who the opponents have been.
Still, Ole Miss has not faced any offense close to the one Lane Kiffin is featuring this season. Senior quarterback Blake Sims looked great throwing the ball last week against Florida and the Tide have put up 42 points per game. The Rebels will need to have their best game in all phases to beat Nick Saban and company. Calling them underrated and providing bulletin board material probably isn’t the best idea.
