A referee made arguably the most impressive play in Thursday night’s game between NC State and Wake Forest, and he may have saved himself a lot of pain in doing so.
NC State defeated Wake Forest 34-24 at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. At one point during the game, Demon Deacons quarterback Robby Ashford escaped the pass rush and tried to complete a pass over the middle of the field.
Unfortunately, the umpire was standing right in the path of the throw. The ref almost took the ball straight to the nuts, but he got his hands down just in time to deflect it.

There were a lot of athletic plays in the game, and that was certainly one of them. Those were some serious reflexes.
Ashford struggled in the game, finishing 21/35 for 252 yards, no touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. You know things are not going your way when even the umpire is successfully knocking down your passes.
