Steve Spurrier finds way to take jab at Nick Saban

Steve Spurrier

Steve Spurrier is a master trash-talker and even found a way to jab Nick Saban, whose resume seems impervious.

Spurrier was in Birmingham, Ala. on Monday for the Heisman Trust honoring Pat Sullivan. He was asked for his thoughts on Alabama’s dominance and gave a reply that is sure to tick off Saban.

“They didn’t win the SEC last year,” Spurrier said, via AL.com’s Joseph Goodman.

He’s right; though Alabama won the national championship, they lost to rival Auburn in the regular season and didn’t even win their division.

Spurrier also attributed part of the Crimson Tide’s recruiting success to the school’s history and reputation.

“It’s got a little bit to do with Alabama, and little bit to do with the way they do it as well or better than anybody,” Spurrier said.

How can Spurrier afford to zing Saban? For one, he’s retired as a coach and doesn’t have to worry about retribution. Two, he actually went 3-1 against Saban during his coaching career.

If you enjoyed that, you’ll like Spurrier’s greatest quotes even more.
